Guiding Theme for the Year:  Worship Honestly.  Live Wisely.

In Bible Class this year, we are going to walk through the books of Psalms and Proverbs.  The Psalms are full of praise, but they are also full of grief, anger, fear, doubt, joy, gratitude, repentance, and hope.  Rather than presenting a polished spirituality, they model bringing every part of human experience before God.  The first part of our theme this year is “Worship Honestly” because it encompasses both the emotional depth and the devotional purpose of the Psalms.

The second part of our theme is “Live Wisely” because where the Psalms teach us how to relate to God with honesty, Proverbs teaches us how to live skillfully in God’s world.  It emphasizes wisdom that shapes everyday decisions, relationships, work, speech, money, and character. In other words, one teaches the heart’s posture before God, and the other teaches the life that flows from that relationship.

A strong supplemental book for our Bible Class will be the book titled Do Hard Things by Alex and Brett Harris. This book will encourage spiritual maturity, responsibility, and purposeful living. The central premise is that teenagers are capable of far more than society often expects. The authors emphasize taking responsibility, serving others, developing discipline, and pursuing meaningful goals rather than passive entertainment.

It will answer questions like:

  • What does the Bible say about diligence versus ambition?
  • How does God define success?
  • What is the difference between worldly achievement and faithful stewardship?
  • How can teenagers serve the church and their community now rather than waiting until adulthood?

What gifts has God given each student, and how can those gifts be used for His kingdom?
